Welcome to Class 1 - Ocelot!
Ocelot Class consists of two year groups: Foundation Stage and Year 1. Both the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum’ and the ‘National Curriculum’ are followed in this class. A three year rolling programme of learning enables us to ensure that children do not encounter the same themes twice, whilst ensuring that the key skills for each curriculum are taught. The themes used are broad enough for the children’s own interests to be incorporated within them, thus make their learning more personal and relevant.
The Teacher in Ocelot Class is Mrs Booth who is closely supported by Mrs Walker, Mrs K Wrixon, Miss Gudger and Mrs Dore. Mrs Walker teaches Ocelot on Fridays.
We value and appreciate parental help, so if you would like to join us one afternoon a week (1pm - 3pm) we would love to have you. Please come and have a chat with me if you feel this is something you would like to do. Thanks!
We have a lovely big, bright classroom with a purpose built outside area where the children have the opportunity to put into practice skills they have learned through their own child initiated learning.
We love to take our learning outside and we have wonderful school grounds, including a maze and a pond, that give us the freedom to be explorers and learn through investigation.
Please take a moment to look at the information documents below - they are very useful. As always, please do not hesitate to pop in and see me if you have any questions or concerns or if you wish to share a celebration or achievement!
Celebration assembly - We love to celebrate your children's achievements both in and out of school and on a Friday afternoon, children are given the opportunity to 'shine'. If your child has completed a swimming badge, earned a certificate at St. John's Ambulance or completed a dancing exam (to name just a few) please do send in their award with them on a Friday and they will be able to share their achievement with the rest of the school.
In the autumn term this year we will be learning 'All About Me' and 'Amazing Autumn' followed by 'Come and Join the Celebration'.
In Ocelot class, we have a Nature Table. Please do send in any items to add to our collection (anything that is natural, has been found outside and is interesting to look at. We have magnifying glasses on the table to encourage deeper exploration. Please - No living nature!! (We do not wish to chase creepy crawlies round the classroom!!)
Children from The Cottage preschool will continue to join us for an hour on a Wednesday morning. In the past, we have noticed that children quickly become more and more confident coming in to school and we look forward to their enthusiasm each week! This also really helps to prepare them for the transition in to school, as well as giving the Reception children the chance to show how grown up they have become. We learn many new songs and dances and love to play a variety of musical instruments.
